Cosmetic Surgery Prices in Canada

It’s surprising to know that Canada has reasonable prices for their cosmetic surgery procedures. According to Medicard Finance – a company that collects data on cosmetic procedures in Canada – there are more than 302,000 surgical and non-surgical cosmetic operations performed in Canada in 2003.

Why is this so? If you would compare Canada’s surgery costs with the USA, there’s an obvious difference in amount and innovation because they have discovered some of the most cost-effective methods available. In fact, this country has been an innovator in finding the safest and most effective means in the field of plastic surgery.

Birth of Cosmetic Surgery in Canada

Did you know that even before World War I, plastic surgery has been practiced in Canada? At that time, the procedure was not used to enhance someone’s physical features, but to help maimed soldiers. The doctor who does the procedure – and later named as the “Father of Plastic Surgery in Canada” – is Dr. E. Fulton Risdon.

After the war, he returned to Toronto to continue his profession at the Toronto Western Hospital. He then solidified this specialty at the University of Toronto. By 1958, the Division of Plastic Surgery in the university had been established. Today, the university and McGill University in Montreal lead in the field of Canadian plastic surgery.

Getting Cosmetic Surgery in Canada

Once you’ve decided to get your procedure done in Canada, expect to spend an average of $3,000 to $7,000 for just a single procedure. Other cosmetic surgery prices also tend to be higher because of the doctor’s multiple surgery certificates.

Are you planning on getting a tummy tuck or facelift but have no idea on how much it would cost? Then, check this list of popular procedures done in Canada and their respective cosmetic surgery prices within the recent years:

1)      Breast Enlargement: This procedure will increase the size of your breasts but will not enhance the asymmetry of the nipples. Its average cost is $4500.

2)      Tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty): This involves removing of the fat and extra skin from the abdomen and tightens the abdominal muscles. In most cases, the navel is repositioned and stretch marks can be removed during the tummy tuck procedure. Prepare an average of $5500 for a tummy tuck procedure

3)      Liposuction: This process removes fat with a vacuum device called a cannula. It can be performed on almost every part of the body and face. The average cost for this is around $3000. Most of the time, multiple liposuction is done in one session and it could cost more or less, $7000.

4)      Rhinoplasty: In this procedure, the patient’s nose is being enhanced. It’s considered a complicated procedure since it’s designed to remove bumps, and reshaping/ reducing the size of the nose. The average cost is at $5000.

5)      Facelift: This procedure is divided into several parts: forehead, upper eyelids, middle of the face, lower eyelids, lower face and lips, and neck.  The full facelift procedure costs $10,000.

Is It safe to get cosmetic surgery in Canada?

With Canada’s improving surgical techniques, you can be assured that the procedure is safer compared to other countries. But sometimes danger is still inevitable in such a procedure, no matter how advanced the technology is. There are also instances that patients end up with doctors who are not really qualified to do proper procedures. In the end, these patients suffer more from complications.

The possible side effects of cosmetic surgery:

  • Nausea, dizziness, and pain
  • Numbness and tingling, which could become permanent
  • Blood clot
  • Fluid beneath the wound
  • Excessive bleeding
  • For people who have cardiovascular disease, lung disease or obesity: pneumonia, stroke, heart attack, and blood clot in the legs or lungs
  • Skin infections, which could lead to scarring, punctures to internal organ, and numbness

An Exceptional Surgeon is Your Safety

To prevent any of these from happening, it’s always best to do research when looking for a possible surgeon. It’s also advisable to do a small background check. You can contact the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeon or Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery to verify if the doctor you got is qualified or not. In these ways, you will be assured that your face, body, and life are in good, skilled hands.

Hospitals and Clinics

You should also be aware that cosmetic surgery can be done in either a hospital or private clinic. A hospital is required by law to follow strict standards and safety protocols, while private clinics are effectively unregulated. Owners of a private clinic can choose to join the Canadian Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgical Facilities (CAAASF). The organization started in 1990 to help guarantee surgical procedures done outside the hospital are to strict safety regulations.

Safety is the Top Priority

In every major surgery you will undergo, safety should always be first. You may have saved a few thousands of dollars on expensive cosmetic surgery prices, but if their worth is a lifetime of misery, it’s definitely not worth it. The key is not to rush things, especially when your life is at stake. Follow safety guidelines set by certified surgical organizations. They’re not there to stop your dream of having that perfect beauty, but they don’t want you to commit a mistake you would regret.
